The New Year
The year that changed us more than ever
The year that made us vow to endeavor
The gift of humanity
The year that span us off with aggression
The year that filled our world with oppression
And we just couldn't understand it
The year that was scary, and lonely and bleak
The year that meant we could only truly speak
Within our own walls...
or to our own floors
Masks weren't secured to our cheeks
in our homes
We had freedom of speech
Yet we felt so alone
All we wanted was hand-held touch
a little cuddle
an emotional crutch
We carried guilt and shame and grief
The world continued to feel so bleak
We perfected 'Teams'
when torn at the seams...
We smiled to humans on a screen
We began to bake and walk and jog
We tried so hard to lift the fog
That consumed us all to well
And gave us the darkest of stories to tell
And now we stand right under the moon
And it's not one moment at all too soon
To wave goodbye to the year that griped
and welcome in, the year of life
Written from my heart, and with light, for those who need it
